Marlena Stawska –  PhD, researcher, WULS-SGGW

My name is Marlena Stawska and I am actually a PI of the PRELUDIUM project funded by the National Science Centre, in the SeedExplorerGroup at the Department of Plant Physiology, Warsaw University of Life Science-SGGW, with PhD Krystyna Oracz as a group leader. In May 2019’ I have obtained my PhD degree in biology at WULS-SGGW. During my thesis, under supervision of PhD K. Oracz I was elucidating the role of light and particular genes involved in light signaling in regulation of dormant Arabidopsis seeds germination. At the same time, I was also actively involved in another projects investigating the role of  genes responsible for regulation of  transcription and translation in germinating Arabidopsis seeds.

Privately I enjoy gardening, traveling and learning about new cultures.

Erwan Boutet –  intern Eng student of agriculture, Unilasalle Engineering School of Rouen, France

My name is Erwan and I am an Eng student of agriculture at Unilasalle Engineering School of Rouen in France. I am very curious about processes occurring in the cells of living organisms, and I like Nature and science overall. Currently, I am doing a three-month internship in the SeedExplorerGroup at the Institute of Biology WULS-SGGW, headed by Ph.D. Krystyna Oracz. This research stage gives me a chance to develop my knowledge in plant science and laboratory skills, as well as satisfy my curiosity about molecular mechanisms regulating processes occurring in seeds and seedlings. The aim of the study is to analyze the role of environmental factors such as light and temperature, in the regulation of seed-related processes.

In terms of hobbies, I like to make botanical drawings, walk, rock climb, and read.

Natalia Pawłasek – MSc student of biology, WULS-SGGW

My name is Natalia and I am a biology student at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (WULS-SGGW). During my graduate studies, I have joined the SeedExplorerGroup headed by PhD Krystyna Oracz, at the Department of Plant Physiology, Institute of Biology (WULS-SGGW). I am interested in plant physiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology. My research will help us to better understand the mechanisms allowing organisms to function properly under changeable and unpredictable environmental conditions. The aim of my MSc thesis, under the supervision of PhD K. Oracz, is to analyse the role of selected MIR genes at different stages of the developmental cycle of Arabidopsis thaliana.

My hobbies are reading books, listening to different kinds of music, watching TV series, and taking care of my cats.

Aleksandra Goc  –   BSc student of biology, WULS-SGGW

My name is Aleksandra. I am a student of Biology at the University of Life Sciences in Warsaw. The most interesting area of my studies is to discover the secrets of the molecular basis of the mechanisms of life functioning. Currently, I am a member of the SeedExplorerGroup headed by PhD Krystyna Oracz at the Department of Plant Physiology, Institute of Biology (WULS). The aim of my BSc thesis, under the supervision of PhD K. Oracz, is to investigate the role of a particular RBOH gene in the regulation of dormancy and germination of Arabidopsis thaliana seeds.

In my free time, I like to bake sweet treats, read criminals and go hiking.
